To help us investigate, include

  • WordLens version and build number
  • iPhone or iPad model and system version, or Android device model and Android version
  • The exact steps that led to the issue
  • An error screenshot without private learning content

Do not send an Apple or Google account password, verification code, full payment-card information, or full purchase credentials. For a purchase issue, the date and last few characters of the order number are enough.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Common questions

Why were some words not recognized?

Keep the page flat, use even lighting, and make sure the text is in focus. Small type, glare, severe angles, handwriting, and covered text can reduce recognition quality. After importing a page, you can crop it and recognize it again.

Does WordLens upload my photos?

WordLens does not upload photo content or recognition results to InfEngine Labs servers. Live lookup does not save camera frames. Page images and word boxes kept for scan history stay on your device until you delete them. Sentence translation and dictation use each platform’s system services. Android text recognition uses Google ML Kit; see the Privacy Policy for its diagnostic data handling.

How do Built-in and System voice differ?

Built-in plays standard British and American audio prepared for each word. About 20,000 common words come with the app and play offline. Words without a built-in recording use the device’s system text-to-speech. On Android, only offline voices are used; voices that require a network connection are skipped. Choose Built-in or System voice under Settings → Pronunciation source, or switch on the lookup card, where you can also adjust UK/US accents and speed.

Why do some words need an internet connection to play?

Only rarer words and phrases use on-demand audio, only with Built-in selected and before you download the accent pack. Playing them fetches audio from downloads.infenginelabs.com (Cloudflare). Once cached, the same word needs no repeat request. The request reveals the word played and your IP address, which the host or Cloudflare may log. No photos, learning records, or other lookups are sent. Common words need no connection. Download the accent pack in Settings (about 160 MB British or 150 MB American) to stop per-word requests. The pack is a plain file download from the same host. Choosing System voice also avoids these audio requests.

How do I show hidden senses?

Turn on Settings → Show sexual and vulgar senses. Senses marked “(性)” for sexual acts and organs, or “(粗)” for swearing, vulgar words, and insults, are hidden by default.

Why is sentence translation unavailable?

Sentence translation starts only after you tap Translate. On iPhone and iPad, it uses Apple’s on-device Translation framework and does not run in Simulator. On Android, it uses only Android's on-device system translation. The system may need to download a language pack; the English sentence stays available until the download finishes.

Does dictation upload what I say?

Dictation is used only to check a practice answer. On iPhone and iPad, the system may recognize speech on device, or it may send that audio to Apple. On Android, WordLens uses only on-device speech recognition, never a network recognizer, and requests microphone permission when used. WordLens does not upload the audio to InfEngine Labs servers.

How do I delete scans and learning data?

You can remove an individual scan, clear scan history, or erase all user data in Settings. Erasing user data does not remove the offline dictionary included with the app or cancel store purchase rights.

How do I move words and learning history to a new device?

Export a .wordlens backup on the old device, then import it through the system file picker on the new device. Backups do not include scan images or purchase credentials; review the import summary before proceeding.

How do I restore WordLens Pro?

On iPhone and iPad, confirm that the device uses the Apple account that made the purchase, then open Settings → Pro and choose Restore Purchases. On Android, use the Google Play account that made the purchase to restore Pro through Google Play. This restores Pro access only; it does not transfer learning data from another device.

How do I request a refund?

On iPhone and iPad, Apple handles payment, purchase records, refunds, and revocations under App Store terms; apply through your Apple purchase history or Apple’s official refund process. On Android, Google Play handles payment, refunds, and restores; apply through Google Play’s refund process. InfEngine Labs cannot alter store billing records directly.
