WORDLENS · PRIVACY

Privacy Policy

Core WordLens features run on your device, with no account. Photos, recognition results, and learning records are not uploaded to us. Built-in audio for common words comes with the app. Without the accent pack, playing a rarer word or phrase requests audio from our download host, revealing the word played, your IP address, and other request data. This policy explains audio downloads, system services, and support email.

1. Scope and provider

This policy applies to the WordLens iOS and Android apps and related user support provided by InfEngine Labs (苏州工业园区无限引擎软件开发工作室).

2. On-device processing

Text recognition, dictionary lookup, vocabulary books, review, spelling, and learning statistics are handled on your device. Sentence translation also runs on device. WordLens requires no account and does not upload photos, recognition results, or learning records to InfEngine Labs. Lookup alone makes no audio request. Playing some built-in audio requests our download host, as described in section 3. Data handling for text recognition and dictation is described in section 5.

InfEngine Labs operates no advertising, analytics, or crash reporting in WordLens. Google ML Kit on Android sends diagnostic and usage analytics data to Google, as described in section 5.

3. Built-in pronunciation and audio downloads

Built-in pronunciation uses prepared neural voice recordings, with one British and one American voice. About 20,000 common words come with the app and play offline without sending a request. Words without a built-in recording, or with System voice selected, use the device’s system text-to-speech. On Android, only offline voices from the device’s TTS engine are used; voices that require a network connection are skipped.

Only when Built-in is selected and the accent pack has not been downloaded does playing a rarer word or phrase fetch audio from InfEngine Labs’ download host, downloads.infenginelabs.com (Cloudflare). The clip is then cached on your device. Once cached, the same word makes no repeat request.

The request identifies the clip with a short hash of the word. The word list is public, so the request effectively reveals which rarer word or phrase you played. It also carries your IP address and normal request data, such as the time and app user agent, which the host or Cloudflare may log. Nothing else is sent: no account information, learning records, photos, or other lookups.

Download the full accent pack in Settings (about 160 MB British or 150 MB American) to stop per-word playback requests. The pack itself is a plain file download from the same host and also carries normal request data, including your IP address. Choosing Settings → Pronunciation source → System voice also avoids built-in audio download requests.

Downloading the Android APK from the WordLens page is also a plain file download from the same host and carries normal request data, including your IP address.

The Android app installed from our site checks for new versions: at most once a day while Check for updates automatically is on, or when you tap Check for updates, it reads a small version file from the same host. The request carries the same normal request data, including your IP address, and no learning records or lookups. Copies installed from Google Play do not check. You can turn off automatic checks in Settings → Build information. A new version downloads in your browser.

4. Photos, scan history, and permissions

WordLens accesses the camera or a selected photo only when you choose to capture or import an image. Live lookup does not keep video frames. Page images, recognized text, and word boxes used for scan history stay on your device until you delete the record or erase the data. Cropping saves a separate image; the original remains in scan history.

On Android, camera and microphone permissions are requested only when you use the relevant features. Photos and backup files are accessed through system pickers. Notifications are optional local review reminders, rescheduled after a device restart. Internet access is used for the pronunciation download host and Google Play; ML Kit’s network data handling is described in section 5.

5. Text recognition, translation, and dictation

On iPhone and iPad, WordLens uses Apple Vision to recognize text on your device. On Android, it uses Google ML Kit Text Recognition with the model bundled in the app; recognition runs on device. Page images and recognition results are not sent to InfEngine Labs.

According to Google’s ML Kit data disclosure (https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/android-data-disclosure), the ML Kit SDK collects device information (manufacturer, model, OS version and build), API configuration (such as image format and resolution), input and output size, and per-installation identifiers not intended to identify a user or device, for diagnostics and usage analytics. This data is sent to Google over HTTPS and is not transferred to third parties.

Sentence translation starts only after you tap Translate. On iPhone and iPad, it runs on device through Apple’s Translation framework. On Android, it uses only Android's on-device system translation. The system may need to download a language pack. The English sentence and its translation are not uploaded to InfEngine Labs.

Dictation uses the microphone to check an answer you speak. On iPhone and iPad, Apple speech recognition may process the audio on device or send it to Apple. On Android, WordLens uses only on-device speech recognition, never a network recognizer, and requests microphone permission when used. WordLens does not upload the audio to InfEngine Labs.

6. Pro purchases and sponsorship

On iPhone and iPad, Apple App Store handles optional WordLens Pro purchases, restoration, refunds, and revocations. WordLens receives product and entitlement status from the store to decide whether Pro is unlocked. InfEngine Labs does not receive your full payment-card information or Apple account password.

On Android, WordLens Pro uses Google Play Billing. Google Play handles payment, refunds, and restores; WordLens reads purchase status from Google Play to decide whether Pro is unlocked.

Android devices without Google Play services can use Pro features without a purchase. The app shows an optional sponsor link that opens infenginelabs.com in the browser when tapped.

7. System backup and export

On iPhone and iPad, if you enable iCloud Backup, the operating system may back up app data under your Apple settings. WordLens does not perform that upload itself.

On Android, automatic cloud backup is disabled and app data is excluded from device-to-device transfer. You can export a .wordlens backup through the system file picker.

On both platforms, exported .wordlens backups contain vocabulary, learning records, and settings, but no scan images or purchase rights, and are not encrypted. After export, the location or sharing destination you choose is responsible for storing them.

8. Support email

When you email support, we receive your email address, message, and anything you choose to attach. We use it to reply, investigate the issue, and retain necessary support records. We keep it only as long as needed for those purposes and applicable legal obligations. Do not send passwords, verification codes, or full payment information.

9. Your controls

You can delete individual records, clear scan images, or erase all user data in the app. You may also contact us to ask about or request deletion of personal information in support correspondence, except where applicable law requires retention.

10. Children and minors

WordLens does not use accounts, advertising, or app-operated analytics to solicit children's personal information. A minor who needs to contact us should do so with a parent or guardian where local law requires it.

11. Security, changes, and contact

We reduce risk by limiting data and favoring on-device processing, but no device, backup, or electronic communication can be guaranteed absolutely secure.

If features or data practices materially change, we will update this policy and its effective date. Email privacy questions to support@infenginelabs.com.
