SPEAKPEEK FEATURES

Hear the sound, see how it's said

HOVER

Hover or select to speak

Point at a word and a Speak button appears—click it or press Enter to listen. Select a passage to hear all of it, or use “Speak with SpeakPeek” in the right-click menu.

PHONETICS

IPA, pinyin, and definitions

See IPA for English and pinyin for Chinese, with a dictionary fallback for other languages. Definitions appear alongside the sound—offline Simplified Chinese for English words and phrases by default (switch to Traditional Chinese or English), with word forms resolved (went → go).

KEYBOARD

Word by word, hands on the keys

Press ⌘/Ctrl+Shift+K for keyboard mode. Move word by word with the arrow keys, build up a phrase, and speak it. All three shortcuts can be rebound in your browser.

YOUR VOICE

Your voice, your pace

Choose any voice installed on your system and adjust speed and pitch. The interface comes in 10 languages, follows your light or dark theme, and settings sync with your browser.

PRIVACY BY DESIGN

No tracking, no data collection, no account.

Speech uses your browser's built-in voices. SpeakPeek has no analytics or tracking. Phonetics and definitions are on by default and can be turned off anytime in the extension's popup. Chinese pinyin, Chinese definitions of English words, and most English IPA come from a dictionary built into the extension and are looked up entirely on your device. Only when you switch to English definitions, look up another language, or the built-in dictionary can't provide a word's IPA or meaning is that single word sent to public dictionary services (Free Dictionary API and Wiktionary)—never any other page content.
